Modul Lume Explained

Lume?

"Lume", short for luminescence, is a key feature in watches that allows for visibility in low-light conditions.

Typically found on the hands, hour markers, and sometimes even on the bezel or other parts of the watch face, lume is applied as a special paint or material that absorbs light energy and emits it gradually, creating a glow that can last for hours. This illumination is particularly useful for those who need to read the time in dark environments, such as divers or outdoor enthusiasts.

Various types of lume exist, with some offering brighter and longer-lasting illumination than others. Whether it's the classic green glow of traditional lume or the modern blue or even multicolored varieties, the presence of lume adds both practical functionality and aesthetic appeal to timepieces.

Modul Lume Options

While some parts may have a multicolor lume, emitting light in different colors in different areas, we mainly use "green" or "blue" lume in our builds. To be more technical:

Green is C3 Super-LumiNova. Areas covered in C3 generally have a white (possibly greenish) surface color in the light and emits green light in the dark. There are exceptions to what the surface color may look like in the light, so make sure to look at the build configuration images.

Blue is BGW9 Super-LumiNova. Areas covered in BGW9 generally have a white (possibly blueish) surface color in the light and emits blue-green light in the dark. There are exceptions to what the surface color may look like in the light, so make sure to look at the build configuration images.

Red is from the Red Line Super-LumiNova series. However, since it is not as bright as Green or Blue, this color is mainly used for aesthetics and not practicality. Areas covered generally have a red surface color in the light and also emits red light in the dark. There are exceptions to what the surface color may look like in the light, so make sure to look at the build configuration images.

Yellow is from the Retro Yellow Line Super-LumiNova series. However, since it is not as bright as Green or Blue, this color is mainly used for aesthetics and not practicality. Areas covered generally have a yellow surface color in the light and also emits yellow light in the dark. There are exceptions to what the surface color may look like in the light, so make sure to look at the build configuration images.

Finally, our Multicolor products are normally a mix of many different lume colors. On any given item not only the colors themself varies, since different lume colors have different characteristics, also the duration and intensity of the emitted light will vary.
