Materials

Modul watchbands and cases come in various materials, unless otherwise specified we use 316L stainless steel. The currently selected material is indicated in the Band selection and the Case selection windows.

Stainless steel

Modul exclusively use surgical grade stainless steels. Known for their excellent corrosion resistance, durability, and hypoallergenic properties, they are ideal for use cases with prolonged skin contact. The low carbon contents helps prevent rusting and ensures longevity, even in harsh environments like saltwater exposure.

SoftWeave

Modul SoftWeave product family is durable, lightweight and resistance to wear and tear. These wristbands are perfect for active and/or outdoor use. The breathable, rugged construction ensures comfort as well as durability. SoftWeave product family consists of several nylon and polyester fabrics, woven for maximal performance.

SoftFlex

Modul SoftFlex product family contains multiple synthetic rubber blends. The soft, flexible feel ensures comfort while maintaining resilience in harsh environments. The materials are highly resistant to heat, chemicals and weather, offering exceptional durability for long-term use while being comfortable to wear and gentle to the touch.

Leather

Modul have wristbands in vegan leather as well as genuine leather. No matter the type of leather, the material selection ensure durability and water resistance so that your wristband stay pristine and beautiful even with daily use.

Watch dials

Sunburst effect is a popular feature applied to wristwatch dials. The dynamic effect in which the light appears to play over the surface is achieved by a special finishing process and semi translucent paints. The result is a beautiful effect where light seems to emanate from the middle of the dial, in "sunbursts". Here is our dial 12001 with sunburst effect:

Laquered dials are admired for their smooth, glossy finish and vibrant colors.

Matte dials gives an understated, discrete appearance and practical benefits in readability. The non-reflective finish minimizes glare, making them particularly popular for tool watches and those seeking a subtle, refined aesthetic. See our dial 12089 as an example:

Textured dials bring a unique dimension and character to a wristwatch, transforming the often flat surface of a dial into a canvas of intricate patterns, reliefs, and designs. Enhancing the visual appeal and tactile quality of a timepiece, often elevates it into a three dimensional work of art. Here is our dial 12009:

Fumé effect comes in all colors and finishes and is achieved by using darker colors towards the outside of the dial, making it appear to have been "smoked". Here is an example of a dial that has both the sunburst and fumé effect (dial number 12069):

Ombré (fade) effect is similar to the fumé dial, but here the color fade is not towards the outside of the dial but rather in any other direction, such as from the top to the bottom our dial 12073, that also have a lacquered effect providing extra depth to the colors:

Water resistance (ATM)

The water resistance (ATM) of a watch case is indicated in the Case selection window.

The table below summarizes Modul general user guidelines, as well as the industry standard guidelines, in regards to the ATM rating.

Crystal

The transparent material that covers and displays the watch face is called the crystal. Modul watch cases have one of three different types of crystals. The crystal material is indicated in the Case selection window.

Acrylic glass

  • Commonly used in retro style builds
  • Very affordable
  • Does not shatter
  • Scratches can be buffed out

    Mineral glass

    • Most common crystal type, good compromise between Synthetic Sapphire and Acrylic.
    • More affordable
    • Decent scratch resistance
    • Might shatter in extreme conditions

    Synthetic sapphire

    • Used in professional and high end watches.
    • More expensive
    • Superior optical clarity
    • Superior scratch resistance

    Service

Regular servicing of your Modul is essential to maintain its optimal performance and longevity. Over time, the delicate components can experience wear, and proper maintenance ensures accurate timekeeping and the smooth operation of its intricate mechanisms. Here are the key points regarding the service of your Modul mechanical watch:

    1. Recommended Service Interval: For a watch worn daily we recommend service every 7-10 years. Regular servicing allows for the inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, ensuring its proper functioning. If you wear your watch only on occasion we recommend service every 15-20 years or when you start to notice deviation in the timekeeping.

    2. Professional Watchmaker: When it comes to servicing your Modul, it is crucial to entrust the task to a qualified and experienced watchmaker. Authorized service centers or certified watchmakers with expertise in Seiko mechanical movements are equipped with the necessary tools, knowledge, and genuine replacement parts to perform reliable servicing.

    3. Comprehensive Inspection: During a watch service, the watchmaker will conduct a comprehensive inspection of the movement, case, crystal, crown, and other components. They will assess the overall condition, identify any issues, and recommend the appropriate repairs or adjustments. This thorough examination helps address potential problems early on and prevents further damage.

    4. Cleaning and Lubrication: A vital aspect of watch servicing involves cleaning and lubricating the intricate mechanical parts. The watchmaker will disassemble the movement, clean each component using specialized solutions, and carefully lubricate the essential points to reduce friction and ensure smooth operation. This meticulous process helps maintain accurate timekeeping and prolongs the life of the watch.

    5. Timing Adjustment and Regulation: Timekeeping accuracy is crucial for a mechanical watch. During servicing, the watchmaker will assess the watch's timing performance, adjust the balance wheel, and regulate the movement to achieve optimal accuracy within acceptable tolerances. This meticulous calibration ensures that your watch keeps time as accurately as possible.

    6. Water Resistance Testing: If your watch is water-resistant, it will undergo water resistance testing as part of the service. This involves subjecting the watch to specific pressure conditions to ensure its ability to withstand water ingress. If necessary, the watchmaker will replace worn gaskets or perform any required adjustments to maintain its water-resistant properties.

    7. Documentation and Warranty: After servicing your mechanical watch, the watchmaker should provide you with detailed documentation, including a service record, description of the work performed, and any warranties associated with the service. Retaining these records is important for future reference and can help in maintaining the watch's value and authenticity.

By following the recommended service intervals and entrusting your mechanical watch to qualified professionals, you ensure its proper care and maintenance. Regular servicing not only keeps your Modul in optimal condition but also preserves its value and allows you to enjoy its precision and beauty for years to come.
